DJ EDGAR, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Edgar Marins was born January 4th 1974
Grew up in the Tijuca (north zone of Rio de Janeiro).
DJ Edgar started his DJ career in 1990 and played in the begining with the equipe of Furacão 2000 - The biggest Baile Funk Sound System in Rio that time. Backed up the duo William & Duda (Duda do Borel nowadays) in the 90's, after that worked with MC Mascot and the duo Gorila e Preto, and for quite a while backed up Mr. Catra, toured with him and did most of the production for his albums.
DJ Edgar went playing in Europe for the first time in 2005. Since then he has been touring in europe several times, making shows in countries as Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Germany, Poland, Holland, England, Austria, Belgium among others.
Edgar plays everything from old Miami Bass to current Baile Funk and Pos-Funk, switching between mad MPC wizzardry and frenetic turntables skills.
Participated in events as SpringEight Festival 2008 (Graz, Austria) with DJ's as “Drum Magic” and “Mix Hell”; DUTTY Weekend - Zoo York (Prague, Czech Republic); Polar Music Prize (Stockholm, Sweden); Festival Caliente (Zurich, Switzerland); CPH:DOX * - International Documentary Film Festival 2008 (Copenhagen, Denmark); plus many European clubs and nightclubs as Mosebacke, Södra Teatern and Berns (Stockholm); Rumble@ Inferno (Gothemburg); Low Up (Bruxells); Favela Chic (Paris and London); Guanabara (England); Rust, Vegas and Christiania (Copenhagen); Le Usine (Geneva), and others.
Edgar is really one of the DJ's from Rio de Janeiro who is globalizing the sound of Funk Carioca. If there's ONE DJ that represents Rio's hot new dance sound, which currently explodes on dancefloors all around the world - DJ Edgar is the man!
